Dover Tug - Rock Barge
Footage of Rock Barge adrift off Dover coast filmed from inside Coastguard Tug. Rock barge under tow by Anglian Monarch in Storm Force 10.
Inishere
At 10.10 am on Saturday 28 October 2000 the master of the Irish cargo vessel ‘Inishere’ informed Portland Coastguard of a break down due to engine problems and was drifting 16 miles south south east of Anvil point. The 1800 tonne vessel was carrying a cargo of potash. ‘Inishere’ tried to effect repairs but this proved unsuccessful due to the adverse weather and south westerly winds force 8 - 9. The vessel drifted towards the shoreline and by 6.30pm was 5 miles off shore. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency Counter Pollution Branch and Portland Coastguard responded to the situation, and the Secretary of State's representative for Maritime Salvage and Intervention Control was involved in negotiations with the owners of the vessel to accept a tow. As the situation deteriorated ‘Inishere’ was urged to declare a pan urgency broadcast and the Portland Port tug ‘Sandsfoot Castle’ made for the scene. The RNLI Lifeboat from Weymouth was also requested to attend the scene, as was Portland Coastguard Rescue Team. Coastguard Rescue Helicopter ‘Whisky Bravo’ stood by the vessel while a tow rope was connected.
