Mud Flats (no audio)
Thursday 6 August 1998. An emergency call was received at Solent Coastguard just after 5.00 pm requesting help to two young girls aged 9 and 10 who, after playing in a mud gully 300 metres from the shoreline at Fowley Island near Emsworth, had sunk up to their waists and were calling for help. Both parents were on scene. The local Hayling Coastguard team and the Coastguard Sector Officer from Portsmouth to the area were tasked, together with the Hayling in-shore lifeboat, which managed to get to the girls in the gully and get the girls out of the mud. They were transferred to the Coastguard helicopter 'India Juliet' which took them to the Haslar hospital. They had mild hypothermia when winched aboard the helicopter, but no injuries were reported.

Mud Rescue (Package and rushes - Meridian Soton and Coastguard - Bouldnor Cliff, IOW)
Thursday 27 February 2003 15.36. Lee on Solent Coastguard helicopter 'India Juliet', the Coastguard Rescue Team and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service responded to a 999 call from a young lady out walking dogs with her friends on the beach near Bouldnor Cliff on the Isle of Wight. Two children in the group had got into difficulty in the mud as the tide came up. They were located quickly by the helicopter and were successfully rescued. One of the children had been waist deep in mud and was airlifted to St Mary's Hospital as a precaution due to the effects of the cold. The other was evacuated by stretcher by the Coastguard Rescue Team to a waiting ambulance. The team praised the girl's action in calling 999 and remaining calm and coherent when giving details.
